One Million Hits and Counting!

Just a few minutes ago, we reached a milestone here at Through the Shattered Lens.  What was that milestone?  Well, as you might have guessed from the picture above, this site has now been viewed over a million times!

YAY!

I can still remember the day that Arleigh first invited me to help him with his site.  Back then, the site was still known as Unobtainium 13 and I was so incredibly flattered to be asked to contribute.  My first review for this site was of the odd 1970s blaxploitation film Welcome Home, Brother Charles and I remember how nervous I was when I first posted it and how happy I was when I discovered that the old saying was indeed true: If you write it, someone will read it.  And, sometimes, if you’re really, really lucky, they’ll leave you a nice comment.

Back then, we had one subscriber* and we were excited if we just managed to get 500 views a day.  The site has grown a lot since then and, two years after I first wrote that review of Welcome Home, Brother Charles, I can truly say that I still love writing for this site just as much as I did during those first few months.  And I’m looking forward to continuing to write for this site for as long as Arleigh is willing to put up with me.

Finally, allow me to take a moment to thank two very special groups of people.

First off, thank you to my fellow Shattered Lens contributors for all that they’ve done and all that they continue to do for this site.  This site, which is a true labor of love, could never have grown without each and every one you.  On a personal note, I feel as if I’ve grown up along with this site and for that, I will always be beyond grateful.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has ever taken a chance and visited this site.

Whether you were looking for a film review, a music review, a comic review, a video game review, a grindhouse movie trailer, a pulp artist profile, the latest in anime, or a hottie of a day, thank you!

Thank you for visiting, thank you for reading, thank you for subscribing, thank you for voting, and thank you for commenting!

Thank you for giving all of us this moment.

I hope that, over the past two years, we’ve been able to entertain, enlighten, and engage you and I hope that we’ll continue to do so for the next two years as well!

Here’s to the next million views!

  1. I was wondering if that “sole subscriber” was me. Please know how pleased I am to learn that. I haven’t chimed in much lately, due to some recently-developed demands on my time, but that doesn’t mean that I have not been paying attention. I have seen the continued excellence of the earlier writers, as well as the emergence of a couple more great film critics, along with a certain devotee of the avant garde and unique (“The Other Ms. Bowman”).

I am also happy to see more commentators among the readership, including some articulate and insightful “regulars” (almost as much so as I, were that possible. It’s my humility that makes me better than other people).

This is a great site, for its quality, variety, and not least, the personality and character of its writers.

Arleigh, I do remember your invitation to subscribe to the site (a decision I’m sure you have since questioned many times). Having read your top horror film list and a few reviews, it was clear I had found something worth revisiting. Congratulations on assembling a staff that has been able to maintain the standard of excellence you set in the beginning. Thank you for this site, which is clearly a labor of love.

Thank you for the horror, the bizarre, the epic, the interesting, the music, and for the just plain fun. And thanks for the opportunity to exchange viewpoints and share ideas, especially with you and (The Original) Ms. Bowman.

Sorry for the speech. (I’ll shut up now. But I’ll keep reading and watching and listening.)

    Congratulations to you all.

I laughed out loud when I read that. Thank you! 🙂

I have to admit that the comments you left on my first few grindhouse trailer posts was one the main reasons why I started doing it as a regular feature. 🙂

I’m glad you’re still reading the site and commenting when you can! 🙂

  3. I think I’ll push back my vgm entry for a day so this can sit on top of the page a while longer. It’s hard to believe how much this site’s come along over the years. I thought my writing days were done when the gaming site Arleigh and I used to contribute to folded in 2005 abouts, but now I can enjoy more viewers and more freedom to write what I want than I ever had back then. Cheers! And thanks to all the subscribers! Without you all we’d be whispering in the wind.

Oh, I uh, think I accidentally edited one of your scheduled post dates when I was adjusting my own. Sorry about that. <_<
