No Guts, No Glory: Lisa Marie Attempts To Predict The Actual Oscar Nominees

Okay, because I love being punished (oh yes), here are my predictions for which films and performers will recieve Oscar nominations in the 6 major categories tomorrow morning.  As opposed to my previous post on the Oscars, these are the films that I expect to see nominated (as opposed to who and what I personally would like to see nominated.)

Best Picture

The Artist

The Descendants

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Bleh!  Not happy about this one)

The Help

Hugo

Midnight In Paris

Best Director

Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris

Michel Hazanvicius for The Artist

Alexander Payne for The Descendants

Martin Scorsese for Hugo

Tate Taylor for The Help

(Yes, I’m going out on a limb and making a random prediction for Taylor.  If I’m wrong, I’ll still be 4 for 5.  And if I’m right, then I’ll be a freaking genius.)

Best Actor

Demian Bichir for A Better Life

George Clooney for The Descendants

Leonardo DiCaprio for J. Edgar

Jean Dujardin for The Aritst

Brad Pitt for Moneyball

(Yes, I am predicting that Michael Fassbender will be passed over in favor of a more politically correct nomination for Bichir.  There’s always at least one brilliant performance and film that is ignored and I think that this year, it’ll be Fassbender and Shame in general.)

Best Actress

Viola Davis for The Help

Rooney Mara for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (bleh)

Meryl Streep for The Irony Lady

Tilda Swinton for We Need To Talk About Kevin

Michelle Williams for My Week With Marilyn

Best Supporting Actor

Kenneth Branagh for My Week With Marilyn

Albert Brooks for Drive

Jonah Hill for Moneyball

Nick Nolte for Warrior

Christopher Plummer for Beginners

Best Supporting Actress

Berenice Bejo for The Artist

Jessica Chastain for The Help

Janet McTeer for Albert Nobbs

Octavia Spencer for The Help

Shailene Woodley for The Descendants

  1. interesting! I think Melissa McCarthy will get the edge over Janet McTeer; even though both actresses have gotten accolades for their performances, I feel like Bridesmaids has gotten way more praise as a film (as a whole) than Albert Nobbs. I could be wrong, though. I mean, I’m predicting the best actor nominees to be Clooney, Dujardin, Pitt – the obvious three – but also Michael Fassbender and Michael Shannon. (Why not? The Academy has been kind to Shannon before.) But knowing how things usually work, Leo will probably be nominated anyway.

    • They changed up the rules a little — now they can nominate anywhere from 5 to 10 films. They changed it up because they said that nominating 10 films meant that a lot of merely good films would end up scoring best picture noms. Oddly enough, This year they actually ended up nominating 9.

  2. So I see! I’m as glad as you are that “Dragon Tattoo” was left off. Needless to say I’m not expecting of the films that were actually good to take home any ofthe big awards — look for “The Help” to clean up, no pun intended.
