Scenes That I Love: The Candidate

It’s election day! Today is the day that American citizens select the person that they’ll be angry with for the next four years. Have you voted yet? I did and, after I turned in my ballot, this guy at the polling place told me that I was the prettiest voter that he had seen all day. Awwwwww!

Today’s scene that I love is particularly appropriate for Election Day. In The Candidate (1972), Bill McKay (played by Robert Redford) runs for the U.S. Senate. Directed in a documentary fashion by Michael Ritchie, The Candidate features excellent supporting performances from Melvyn Douglas and Peter Boyle and it’s one of the best films ever made about the American political system.

The scene below takes place at the end of the film, after the votes have been counted. And, of course, the entire scene is a spoiler so don’t watch it if you haven’t seen The Candidate.

Scenes I Love: Keep On Dancing All Through The Night!

Yesterday, I featured my favorite scene from 1996’s The Brady Bunch Movie. Today, my scene that I love is my second favorite scene from that same film. In this scene, the Brady kids save the day (and their house) with this exciting performance of Keep On.

I love the way that the song just fades out when the Bradys stop to take their final bow.

Scenes I Love: Dead Alive

Sometimes, you watch a movie and there’s a line that will jump out at you so brightly that you have to stand up and take notice. You carry it with you and find that even if it didn’t mean to be, it just comes across as cool or funny. My family watches tons of movies, so at any given time you can make the room smile by screaming something sudden like “They cut the power?! How could they cut the power man? They’re animals!!”

I give you the awesomeness that is Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive. In this scene, which was both shocking and funny, a priest takes offense to zombies causing trouble in the cemetery behind his church. I laugh every time I think of this. Enjoy.
