Who Can A Southern Girl Cheer For In The MLB Play-Offs?

It’s a sad time to be a Southern baseball fan.

The regular season is over.  The playoffs begin tomorrow.  Despite giving me a brief moment of hope in the final weeks, the Rangers did not make the playoffs.  Usually, when the Rangers don’t make it, I cheer for the Astros but they didn’t make it either.

Instead, the following teams will be contending for a spot in the World Series:

For the American League:

  1. Toronto Blue Jays
  2. New York Yankees
  3. Boston Red Sox
  4. Cleveland Guardians
  5. Detroit Tigers
  6. Seattle Mariners

For the National League:

  1. Philadelphia Phillies
  2. Milwaukee Brewers
  3. Chicago Cubs
  4. Cincinnati Reds
  5. Los Angles Dodgers
  6. San Diego Padres

In other words, a bunch of yankees and I don’t just mean New York.

Who will I cheer for out of that collection of teams?  I know who I don’t want to win.  If the World Series comes down to the Blue Jays and the Phillies, I might just stop watching baseball all together.  (I’d have to cheer for the Blue Jays in that matchup but I wouldn’t be happy about it.)

The Guardians are tempting, even if they did clinch their spot by beating the Rangers.  They were the last team to make it to the playoffs and I love a good underdog story.  They may have beat the Rangers but they’re not the team that I blame for keeping the Rangers out of the playoffs.  (I’m looking at you, Astros.)  Ohio may be up north but it’s not that much up north so I guess I can support the Guardians or even the Reds!

Go Guardians!

The Rangers Wil Be Playing The Diamondbacks In The World Series!

Congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks for winning the NLCS!  They beat the Phillies in Game 7 and I’m actually really proud of them.  Just like with my Rangers when they were playing the Astros, the Diamondbacks were the underdogs.  A lot of people wrote off their chances with the Phillies took the lead in the series.  But the Diamondbacks never gave up and never stopped fighting and they won Game 7 with a score of 4-2!

Not only did both the Rangers and the Diamondbacks prove the naysayer wrong but they also saved us from having to sit through another Phillies/Astros World Series.  I’ll be cheering for my Rangers but I’m still happy for the Diamondbacks and all of their fans!

Go Rangers!

The Diamondbacks Tie Up The NLCS!

Congratulations to the Diamondbacks for tying up the NLCS by defeating the Phillies and forcing a Game 7!  Both the ALCS and the NLCS have been really exciting this season.  I can’t wait for the World Series!

Speaking of Game 7… GO RANGERS!  Later Tonight, we shall know which team will be representing the American League in the World Series and, after one more game, we’ll know who they’ll be facing from the National League.

The Phillies Now Lead The NLCS

With their 6-1 victory over the Diamondbacks tonight, the Phillies now lead the NLCS.  Both the Phillies and the Astros are one victory away from playing each other in the World Series for the second year in a row.

We all know that we, as baseball fans, deserve better than that.

Rangers and the Diamondbacks can still turn this thing around.  All it will take is one victory for each to re-tie the series and force a Game 7.  Rangers and Diamondbacks, we’re depending on you!

Go Rangers!

Congratulations to the Diamondbacks!

A big congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks for beating the Phillies 5-6 and tying up the NLCS!

I really hope the Diamondbacks can maintain their momentum and win their conference because, just in case the Asstros do end up in the World Series, it’ll be at least easier for me to cheer against them if they’re playing against Arizona than if they’re playing against Philadelphia.  If the Philadelphia and Houston end up in the World Series, I’ll have to cheer for Houston by default.  If it’s Houston and Arizona, I’ve got some breathing room.

Of course, my main hope is that the Rangers will get it together and win the next two games of the ALCS!

Go Rangers!

Congratulations to the Diamondbacks On Winning Game Three of NLCS!

Congratulations and a big thank you to Arizona Diamondbacks for winning Game 3 of NLCS and bringing some suspense to the MLB playoffs!  Based on the past two games in the NLCS, I thought the Phillies were going to sweep the series but, with their 1-2 victory over the Phillies, the Diamondbacks have proven that they’re still in this!

Now, let’s how things go in Arlington.

The Phillies Win Game One Of The NLCS!

Obviously, I’m more concerned with who is going to win the ALCS but still, I want to congratulate the Phillies on winning Game 1 of the NLCS and taking the first step to making my dream of a Rangers/Phillies World Series come true!  The Phillies beat the Diamondbacks by a score of 3-5.

Congratulations, Phillies!  One of the things that I love about baseball is that the season lasts almost the entire year and no one’s journey to the playoffs is easy or guaranteed.  Baseball makes you work for it.  I know that all of the players playing in both league’s championship series have to be so excited right now and I’m happy for all of them!

Go Rangers!

The Rangers Are 2-0!

Yesterday, the Texas Rangers won their second game of the 2023 season, beating the Phillies by 13 runs!  Congratulations to the Rangers, for getting this season off to a good start.  I know the Rangers aren’t going to win every game this season and I know that there’s a long way to go before the post-season.  But it just feels like this is the season that my team is finally going to get it together.

So, I’m happy.

The Astros Take Game 4

Yesterday, I was happy for the fans of the Phillies because their excitement reminded me of how excited I was when my team, the Rangers, made it to the World Series.  But, as someone who is cheering for the Astros in the World Series, I was not happy that they got blown out in Game 3.  They lost 0-7 and, last night, it looked like the Phillies might be unstoppable.

Tonight, though, the Astros proved that this World Series is nowhere close to being over.  Even with Jill Biden sitting in the stands and trying to turn the country against them, the Astros shut out the Phillies.  The Astros not only won, 5-0, but tonight’s game was also the first combined no-hitter (and the third no-hitter overall) in baseball post-season history.  Tonight, the Astros looked as strong as the Phillies looked last night.

You can hear the Philadelphia crowd booing in the video but I don’t care.  The Astros made history and this World Series isn’t ending anytime soon.  The World Series is now tied 2-2.  Game 5 is tomorrow night.

Go Astros!
