Welcome to the Jungle with Jungle Comics!

Jungle Comics ran from 1940 t0 1954 and was full of stories of jungle adventure.  Many of them featured Kaanga, the jungle lord, who spent all of his time rescuing people from being sacrificed and eaten by wild animals.  Today, Jungle Comics is remembered for its exciting covers.  Below is just a small sampling of the covers of Jungle Comics!

Love On The Range: The Covers of Cowgirl Romances

Yee-haw!  It’s time to celebrate love on the range with Cowgirl Romances!

Cowgirl Romances was published by Fiction House, a publishing company that operated from 1938 to 1954.  Twelve issues of Cowgirl Romances were published between 1950 and 1952 and, judging from the covers below, it looks like they featured all of the dusty romance and hot cattle rustling that a girl could hope for.  All of these covers were done by Maurice Whitman, who understood that, on the range, guns and kisses go together like blacksmiths and horseshoes.  The other thing about these covers is that they show that real cowgirls can take care of themselves out in the wild, except for issue #10.  I don’t know how she is going to outrun a mountain lion in high heels.

Here are the covers of Cowgirl Romances:

Just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend, it’s Cowgirl Romances!  Between 1950 and 1952, Fiction House published 12 issues of Cowgirl Romances and told stories about women in the old west who searched for love while shooting rustlers and other varmints.

I haven’t been able to discover who did the covers below but if any of our readers know, please let us know in the comments.

(The A.N.C. at the top of each cover stands for American News Company.)

(Update: After Gary identified issue 12 as being the work of Maurice Whitman, I did some research and discovered that all 12 of these covers were done by Whitman.  Thanks, Gary!)

In honor of science fiction month, check out some of these vintage sci-fi covers from Planet Comics.  Planet Comics was first published in 1940 and, after 73 issues, it ceased publication in 1953.  As can be seen in the covers featured above and below, Planet Comics told stories of manly men rescuing gorgeous women from bug-eyed aliens and fiendish space pirates.
