The Astros Advance!

It may have taken 18 innings to get there but the Astros are going to the American League Championship Series for the sixth consecutive season!  Congratulations to the Astros and a big thank you to Jeremy Pena, whose 18th inning home run gave the Astros a 1-0 victory over the Mariners!

Congrats to the Astros!

Today, in the MLB playoffs, the Yankees/Guardians game was delayed by inclement weather.  However, the Astros did play and they defeated the Mariners by a score of 4-2.  That means that the Astros are just one more game away from advancing to their sixth consecutive championship series!

Congrats to the Astros and good luck to all the teams playing tomorrow.

Congrats To The Braves and The Padres On Tying Up Their Series

Congrats to the Braves and the Padres, who both won Game 2 of their Divisional Playoffs today and who tied everything up.  The Padres beat the Dodgers 5-3.  The Braves beat The Phillies 3-0.  That means there will at least be a Game 4 for each of these teams.

I was so caught up in all the excitement around the Phillies making the postseason for the first time in 11 seasons, that I think I may have forgotten that they still have to beat two other teams if they’re going to make it to the World Series.  Today, the Braves reminded me to not take anything for granted.

For tomorrow, Go Astros!

The Divisional Playoffs: Game 1

The Divisional playoff started today.

In Game One, the Yankees beat the Guardians, 4-1.

The Phillies beat the Braves by one run, 7-6.

And the Astros came from behind to beat the Mariners, 8-7.

I should be happy because I’m from Texas and the Astros are the Texas teams in the playoffs but I actually feel bad for Mariners, who really impressed me in the Wild Card and who were leading for most of today’s game.  I was glad that the Astros pulled off a win but I was sad that it came at the expense of the Mariners.

I’m also happy for the Phillies and their fans.  I know a lot of them were anxious waiting for the Phillies to finally put away today’s game.  A Phillies/Astros World Series sounds good right about now.  I’d even be happy with a Phillies/Mariners World Series.

Right now, in the last of today’s game, it is the top of the 4th and the Dodgers leads the Padres, 5-0.  Usually, I’d say that Dodgers are going to win but, as the Astros proved today, anything can happen before the final out.  That’s one of the many reasons why I love baseball.

The Atlanta Braves Win the 2021 World Series!

Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves, on winning their fourth World Series championship!

Of course, I was hoping the Astros would win. It’s not that I’m really a supporter of either the Astros or the Braves. I’m a long-suffering Rangers fan. But I was hoping the Astros would pull out a victory in Game 6 because I didn’t want the season to end!

It didn’t happen, though. The Braves won and they won decisively. Congratulations on the victory, Atlanta! You earned it and you deserved it!

As for next season, here’s hoping my Rangers can finally get it together. I’m a baseball fan. I never give up on my team.

Congratulations to the Astros and the Braves!

Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros for finally giving the world what it truly needs this year, an all-Southern World Series!  It’s the Southeast vs. the Deep South as Houston tries to beat Atlanta and win their second World Series title.  Meanwhile, for the Braves, this is their 1st World Series appearance since 1999.

I have to cheer for the Astros because they’re from my homestate but I won’t blame anyone who is cheering for Atlanta!  I think either team could win.  With Game 5 scheduled for October 31st, the Series might even be decided on Halloween!

The Great Pumpkin has been good to us this year!

Congratulations to both teams and good luck next week!

And who knows?  Maybe next year, my Rangers will finally get it together.  Things have to turn around sometime, right?

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HOUSTON ASTROS: 2017 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HOUSTON ASTROS, THE 2017 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!

It wasn’t always an easy journey.  When the Astros made the switch from the National League to the American League, it was not always a smooth transition.  But this season, the Astros have again and again proved themselves to be the best team in the American League.

And tonight, they are the best team in major league baseball.

It took them seven games to win.  The Los Angeles Dodgers proved to be a tough and worthy opponent.  Of all the World Series that I have watched, this has been one of the most exciting and unpredictable  When the Astros lost Game 6 on Halloween, no one gave them much of chance to win Game 7.  They were playing in Los Angeles and everyone said that the Dodgers couldn’t be beaten at home.

Tonight, the Astros did the same thing that they did during the regular season.  They played good baseball and the proved the doubters wrong.  Tonight, the Astros won their first World Series.  For the first time, the World Series has been won by a team from Texas.

Just as people underestimated the Astros this year, people have also underestimated Houston.  When Hurricane Harvey flooded the city, it was said that Houston and the people who lived there would never recover.  Just like the Astros, both Houston and Texas are proving the doubters wrong.

Congratulations to the Houston Astros!  Tonight, the Astros showed the world what it means to be Houston Strong!
