Music Video of the Day: Bayou Boy by Graham Barham (2024, dir by ????)

Happy Mardi Gras to all!

What can I say about this video other than it’s definitely authentic?  There’s a lot of people who will be able to relate to every word of this song.  This guy actually reminds me of more than a few of my cousins.  The fact that the song features more than a little Cajun French only contributes to the authenticity.

Music Video of the Day: Burn by Nine Inch Nails (1994, directed by Hank Corwin and Trent Reznor)

In many ways the epitome of a Nine Inch Nails song, Burn was recorded for the Natural Born Killers soundtrack and was released as a promotional single at the same time that the movie was playing in theaters.  This music video, directed by Hank Corwin and Trent Reznor, was originally included on the VHS release of Natural Born Killers.

The video uses many of the same techniques that Oliver Stone used in the controversial film, having Reznor perform in front of a projection screen that shows stock footage and scenes from the film.

Director Hank Corwin is best known as a film editor.  (He was the editor on Natural Born Killers.)  He is a three-time Oscar nominee for his work on The Big Short, Vice, and Don’t Look Up.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: When Legends Rise by Godsmack (2019, directed by Sully Erna and Paris Visone)

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!  This is a national holiday, as my old edition of Madden used to put it.  Playing Madden, I discovered that the way to get to and win the Super Bowl was to always play with difficulty set to rookie.  One time, in Franchise Mode, my team won 30 straight Super Bowls.  And yet none of the players involved in setting that amazing record made it into the Hall of Fame.

As far as I can tell, no one in this video will be playing in this year’s Super Bowl.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Lonely Dancers by Conan Gray (2024, dir by Jason Lester)

This is a lovely video and I’m happy to feature it as today’s music video of the day.  Everyone’s been a lonely dancer at some point in their life and this video has a 70s, working class hero vibe to it that I really appreciate.

Enjoy!

Music Vide of the Day: Deep Wells by Kacey Musgraves (2024, dir by Hannah Lux Davis)

Oh God, I know the feeling.  Especially as of late.  Kacey has a way of capturing it all and this video certainly does capture that being buried alive, slowly suffocating sensation that comes from being overwhelmed to the point you wish you could just vanish.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: V.A.N. by Bad Omens x Poppy (2024, dir by Garrett Nicholson and Poppy)

I can relate.  This whole month has been full of bad omens.  Let’s just hope that Valentine’s Day can redeem things and save 2024 from being over before it’s even begun!

(No pressure, lover!)

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Before We Drown by Depeche Mode (2024, dir by Anton Corbijn)

Finally, a music video to which I can relate!

Or, at least, I think I can relate.  I’m not really sure what the song is about.  I’m just reacting to the drowning imagery.  It’s easy to feel like you’re drowning under the weight of everything that you need to get done.  Being basically out of commission all last week left me running so far behind that I don’t feel like I’m ever going to caught up.

*sigh*

But I’ll make it!  I always do.

So, enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Half A Boy and Half A Man by Nick Lowe (1984, dir by ????)

Jeff and I saw this video at tonight’s Night Flight Friday watch party, along with our friends Brad and Patrick.  As soon as the video started, I knew that I had found our next music video of the day.  And not a minute too soon because I’m typing this up like 15 minutes before the time hits midnight on the West Coast!

What do I like about this video?  The beach!  The fun!  The party!  The dancing!  Plus, the song’s tune really get stuck in your head.  (To be honest, I’m the worst when it comes to actually hearing lyrics.  I just hear the music and I’m often shocked by how poorly I do whenever I try to recite the lyrics later.  I assume that “Half a boy and half a man” was a lyric in this song but he could have been singing one of the Bond theme songs for all I know.)  This past week was also that week so getting to see a fun video and hear a catchy song was a nice way to celebrate making it to the end.

Anyway, I’m totally off my previously perfect schedule now but I’ll get caught up with everything (including my retro television reviews) over the weekend.  For now …. ENJOY!
