Yesterday was Texas Independence Day and the armadillo is one of our state’s unofficial mascots. I’ve taken better pictures but armadillos are shy and this is the best one I’ve ever been able to get of one of them. As soon as I snapped this picture, he disappeared into the nearby bushes.

This was taken at a Dallas Mardi Gras celebration in 2018. As you can tell, our Mardi Gras party is not as much fun as the one in New Orleans.

Though the novel was originally written in 1949, this is cover is form 1957 edition of the book. This edition was published to go along with a film adaptation of the novel.
