The Heart-Breaking Covers of Girls’ Love Stories
Published from 1949 to 1973 by DC Comcis, Girls’ Love Stories was a romance comic. Today, it’s probably best remembered for its melodramatic covers, many of which were later recreated by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. As you can tell by looking at the covers below, happiness was not easy to find for the women of Girls’ Love Stories. Everyone was either a cheater or, even worse, they had a “reputation.”

The Dramatic Covers of Teen-Age Romances
Published from 1949 to 1955, Teen-Age Romances was one of the first romance comic books. Each issue featured at least five story about teen-age romance. As you can tell by looking at the 13 covers below, teen romances were just as dramatic in 1949 as they are today.

I’ve spent enough time on and around horses that this cover makes me a little nervous. I don’t think he’s holding a tight enough grip on either the reins or the woman. If that horse gets spooked, everyone’s going to go flying. That would be the worst Valentine’s Day ever.
