Horror on TV: The Twilight Zone 1.28 “A Nice Place To Visit”

TheTwilightZoneLogo

In this episode of The Twilight Zone, a thief is shot by the police and finds himself in the afterlife. After a life of struggle and crime, the thief finally finds himself with the opportunity to have everything that he’s ever wanted. Even if you’ve never seen this episode before, you’ll probably be able to guess the twist after a minute or two. But it’s still a pretty good episode, featuring good performances from Larry Blyden and Sebastian Cabot and an typically fun script from Charles Beaumont.

A Nice Place To Visit originally aired on April 15th, 1960.

  1. Good episode. Crook gets shot by police while robbing jewelry store, then seemingly comes to and gets up and is met by man who claims to be his guardian angel and gives him anything he’s always wanted. The guide tells him that he’s dead. He thinks that he’s in heaven but is confused how he made it there, being well aware of his criminal lifestyle. Heaven in this episode seems to be a posh hotel with a classy room and a casino downstairs. The crook is granted free indefinate use to all of this, pretty girls, and winning at gambling every time he gambles. He’s thrilled by it all at first, but after a while grows tired of it. I won’t write the twist of this episode here. All I’ll say is I remember the Simpsons once doing a parody of this idea in a treehouse of horror episode. Homer went to a place called the ironic punishments room, anyone remember that episode?
