Since we all just watched the season finale of the Walking Dead (you did watch it, didn’t you?), I figured I’d highlight two scenes from one of my favorite “zombie” films, 1973’s Messiah of Evil.
The first scene is one that I never fail to think about whenever I find myself going down to Wal-Mart at 3 in the morning.
The second scene is one that really hits home for me because it takes place in a movie theater. If nothing else, it perfectly illustrates why you should always have a date (preferably a strong one) if you’re going to the movies. As sidenote, the unfortunate actress in this scene was named Joy Bang.
Willard Huyck, director of this film, also co-wrote the script for American Graffiti.
I think we’ve all seen “that guy” that creepily lingers a bit too long, either near you or looking towards you at a super market. I think my favorite clip about something like that was on Dave Attel’s Insomniac. He was walking through a nearly abandoned store (because it was so late at night) and there was this clown doll just sitting there next to a rack on the floor. He laughed nervously and asked the camera man if he saw it too. Awesome line from a vaguely drunk comedy host.

These scenes are bizarre and interesting. Is the film worth watching?

I think so. Messiah of Evil is an odd film — obviously, the horror elements are meant to serve as a metaphor for something else but I have yet to figure out what exactly.
