Anyway, this video was directed by Sophie Muller. On the IMVDB, Sophie Muller has been credited with directing 222 videos. She’s worked with almost everyone.
As for the video itself, I just like it because it’s one of those videos that manages to find the perfect balance between sincerity and satire.

Val is usually the one who does our music video of the day feature but she’s taking a few very deserved and well-earned days off so, for the next few days, I’m going to be filling in for her!
So, I figured I’d start things off with this 2002 video of No Doubt’s Hella Good! There’s no big reason behind why I decided to go with this video, beyond the fact that I really love the song and it was directed by one of my favorite filmmakers, Mark Romanek! This was filmed over three days in Long Beach, California and Romanek based it on a Vogue fashion shoot from the 1990s, one that featured the models on wave runners!
As for me, I’m feeling hella good so let’s just keep on dancing…
Yesterday we looked at the Talk Talk version of the song It’s My Life. This time around No Doubt and director David LaChapelle stuck with the theme of the lyrics, but instead put it into a darker context. It screams 2002’s Best Picture winner Chicago all over it. It also has a fair amount of film noir elements in it except it’s the guys who are the ones who do her in rather than the other way around as it appears throughout the video. At least that’s the way it comes across at the end whether they some how arranged the appearance of their deaths or are looking at her execution from the afterlife. I can’t help but think some of the song and the video is the way it is because of Stefani’s relationship with the band and Gavin Rossdale at this time. That stuff certainly showed up in other videos and songs from the band going all the way back to Don’t Speak. But that’s for another day.
