Music Video of the Day: Natural One by The Folk Implosion (1995, dir by Michael and David Udris and Larry Clark)

This song was written for the soundtrack of the 1995 film, Kids, and the video if made up of scenes from the Larry Clark-directed film (along with another story about space exploration).  Oddly enough, the song itself doesn’t actually appear in the film.

Enjoy!

Brad’s Video of the Day – “Sunday in the South” by Shenandoah, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan!

The country group Shenandoah released “Sunday in the South” back in 1989 when I was 16 years old. As a southerner myself from Arkansas, I remember liking the song, but I was today years old when I realized that it had been updated to include Shenandoah, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan. Enjoy my friends!

Music Video of the Day: We’re Not Going To Make It By The Presidents of the United States (2025, dir by Chris Ballew)

This just happened to come up on my YouTube recommendations.  Before anyone yells at me, I realize the song is not from 2025.  But the video was just uploaded by the band 3 weeks ago so that’s why I’m going with the 2025 date.

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Dulce Amor by David Archuleta (2025, dir by Nathan Kim)

In case you were wondering whatever happened to David Archuleta, here you go.

Myself, I can still remember when David Archuleta was on American Idol.  There was actually a lot of controversy when he came in second to David Cook, which always struck me as a bit odd.  Archuleta seemed like a nice guy with an okay voice.  David Cook actually had talent.

(If anything, this was the season that showed how silly it was to have adult performers competing against teenagers.)

Oh, the Archuleta stans were crazy.  I remember posting some very jejune criticism of Archuleta’s performance of Imagine on a message board and getting accused of being a “psychopath” for not enjoying Archuleta’s rather weepy interpretation.

My favorite that season was Jason Castro, just because of how obviously stoned he was.

As for today, Archuleta’s a boring ex-Mormon now.  Who didn’t see that coming?  This video presents us with Archuleta the angel, which is like whatever.  I honestly think it wouldn’t hurt him to get a new management team.  Either that or I guess he could become a perennial political candidate like Clay Aiken.

Enjoy!

Music Video Of The Day: I Belong To Me by Jessica Simpson (2006, dir by Matthew Rolston)

I went to the same high school as Jessica Simpson!

Of course, I didn’t go there at the same time that Jessica did.  Jessica was long gone by the time I started the 9th grade.  As well, I actually graduated while Jessica dropped out so she could become a super-rich celebrity instead.  That said, I did take a few classes that were taught by Jessica’s former teachers, who all agreed that Jessica was a sweet person.  To be honest, most of my classmates made a big deal about being kind of cynical about going to the same high school as Jessica Simpson.  You’re never more jaded than you are between the ages of 13 and 18.  Myself, I’ve always liked Jessica Simpson because we’re both from Texas and we both occasionally play dumb for the laughs.

Anyway, this song was written when Jessica was going through a very public divorce from Nick Lachey.  It’s an empowerment song that also happens to be really depressing, which is really the best type of song there is.  There’s something to be said for a good depressing song and a good depressing video.

Enjoy!

Brad’s Video of the Day – “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran!

When I was a kid, I lived in Perry County, Arkansas, and we didn’t have cable TV or MTV, but what we did have was Friday Night Videos on one of our 3 channels. I’d stay up late on Friday nights in hopes of seeing a video for one of my favorite songs. This would have been somewhere around 1983 or so. I distinctly remember one night being excited that the song “Hungry Like the Wolf” was coming on. Sitting on my porch tonight and feeling a little nostalgic, I think I’ll share that song with all of you!! Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Next by Olivia Holt (2021, dir by ????)

I like this video because the opening images and the first few notes of the song remind me of some lost Eurospy classic from the late 60s. It has a nicely decadent, Jess Franco sort of feel to it. And that’s always a good thing!

Enjoy!

Music Video of the Day: Future Shock by Marc Collin, feat. Clara Luciana (2019, dir by Marc Collin)

Both this song and the scenes in the videos are taken from one of my favorite films of the last few years, The Shock of the Future. A tribute to the women who helped to create electronic music, The Shock of the Future is a rather inspiring film and it can currently be viewed on Tubi. So, go watch it!

But watch the music video first.

Enjoy!
