It took this picture while I was out walking in the rain. I’ve always liked street signs that can double as either warnings or encouragement. It’s not always easy to know what is ahead.
Because America is a country that is very much divided between the urban and the rural, I always try to feature both of them in the days leading up to Independence Day.
In 2017, I was visiting family in Arkansas when I came this country cemetery. It was a very peaceful day, so peaceful that I was joined by not only a squirrel but also a deer. Ever since that day, the pictures below are what I think about the American countryside.

Whenever I go to the Dallas Arboretum, I see this house sitting on the other side of White Rock Lake. Usually, there’s a Texas flag flying from the flagpole. I don’t know who lives there but I do feel like I know their home.
