AMV of the Day: Left Us Falling (Clannad & Clannad: After Story)

Clannad

It’s now February and that means there just might an influx of Valentines-related postings popping up until the 14th. The first one comes courtesy of our latest “AMV of the Day”. This new AMV is both romantic and more than a bit melancholy.

“Left Us Falling” is an AMV based on scenes from the anime series Clannad and, it’s follow-up, Clannad: After Story. The video focuses on the character of Tomoya Okazaki and the changes to his life from the inclusion of two pivotal ladies into his wayward life. The first part of the video shows how much he realizes that Nagisa is the one for him. This is quite a life-changing event for Tomoya since the game and anime the series is based on is of the harem variety. The second person to enter his life that truly upends his life in a good way would be his young daughter Ushio.

To say anymore would be a total spoiler for those who haven’t seen the series and will leave it at that. I will say that the two series plays off quite differently with the first season coming off as being more of the romantic-comedy while the second season turns on a more serious note.

I know I’ve recommended that people watch this series in the past and I will repeat myself and point out that people should watch this series at least once in their life.

AMV of the Day: The End of My World (Clannad/Clannad After Story)

Clannad

The latest “AMV of the Day” comes from the creative mind of one xDieguitoAMV.

“The End of My World” takes select scenes from the anime series Clannad and Clannad: After Story and combines it with the ambient stylings of the band The American Dollar. It chronicles the life of the Tomoya Okazaki through his experiences in both series. It’s told through his point of view as he meets Nagisa Furukawa who would have such a huge impact on his life. The video actually reverse the order by which he sees his life since meeting Nagisa. How she’s changed his outlook on life even if it meant that the happiness he has with her gets balanced out by heartache.

Anyone who has seen this anime knows how the two seasons were polar opposites from each other when it came to their tone and characters. All I can say that I’ve heard anecdotes that even badass, hardened, cynical men who club baby seals for sport have broken down crying like little babies once they’ve seen the series’ After Story. This video will probably relapse them back to that bawling state.

AMV of the Day: A Thousand Years (Clannad/Toradora!)

Clannad

I came across this AMV while browsing youtube and quite bored. I know the song comes from that Twilight thingamabob so I think this latest “AMV of the Day” will pull a tear or two from my co-founder Lisa Marie.

The latest chosen AMV is called “A Thousand Years” and it’s from YouTube user 93RokuStepperZ. It’s a simple romance-themed video that pretty much takes two of the most romantic and sappiest romance anime of the last couple years and melds it with the ballad by Christina Perri for that long-running sparkly vampire and his girlfriend series.

There’s no super bells and whistles in how the video was made. It’s just a well-edited AMV that focuses on the two couple from the two series. There’s Toyomi and Nagisa from Clannad and Clannad: After Story (BAWWWWWWWW) and then there’s Ryuuji and Taiga from Toradora.

Toradora

One thing we won’t find in this AMV would be vampires, werewolves or any of that sort. Just moe anime and a tsundere shorty.

Scenes I Love: Clannad After Story

After people see this scene they will think I’m either crazy or a glutton for heartache for loving this scene. It’s hard to disagree with that statement. There’s a reason why I love this scene from the anime series Clannad After Story and it has less to do with the tone of the scene, but a major reason why anime is not just for kids or about boobs, tentacle rape and all the other things adults in the Western media dismiss the art form for.

This scene from Clannad After Story happens between the series’ main lead in Tomoya who has now come to the realization that he must now make amends to the daughter he left behind to be cared for by his wife’s family. It’s a powerful scene that has brought many to tears from young teen girls to grown-ass men who probably bawled more than the former. One doesn’t even have to have seen the previous season to this anime or any episodes leading up to this scene. The moment itself has enough of a backstory that one cannot help but get caught up in the moment. It’s also a scene that does a great job of emphasizing that bond between parent and child even when the former hasn’t lived up to their responsibilities.

I think if more people watched anime like Clannad After Story their opinions of anime would change for the better and see it in a new and positive light.
