Update, 4:39 pm — Now, CBS, which was the first outlet to report that Tom Petty had died, have backtracked their report. He’s on life support but apparently, he’s still hanging on.
4:44 pm — The LAPD has apologized for “inadvertently providing false information.”
12:25 am — Sadly, Tom Petty’s passing has now been confirmed.

One of the best singers in the world is dead. It It’s very sad and it’s as if there’s a empty space that has occurred in me when he’s dead. I heard a lot of his songs in the 90’s and I’ve heard a lot about his music. He has many songs that it is impossible to get tired of. I bought the album he released in 2014 “Hypnotic Eye” and I have heard many times on that album last year and before. I’m a person who has done many regressions back to past lives so the truth for me is that we are all born again and again and I have studied Tibetan Buddhism much since 1992 and I much of their meditation methods are superb great. I hope Tom Petty soon takes new rebirth and will start helping the world become a better place. Written by Even Ludvigsen, Norway.

Well, that certainly was an interesting dress rehearsal for a tribute page for a still very much alive Tom Petty. A little fact checking next time – especially before the burial and/or cremation – would be a really good idea, ya think?

Leave it to the cops in L.A. to screw things up once again. So sorry that Petty’s gone. He made lives nicer through his artistry.
