Hottie of the Day: Lynn Collins

I’ll admit that I’m not very experienced in writing about The Hottie of the Day. The things that move me about women may not be what moves everyone else. Along with that, you have to find something really cool and interesting to say about the subject, when in fact, you’re taking the phrase “Wow, she’s hot.” and expanding on that. Maybe if I get better, I’ll do more.

This may be a tough one, though.

My last entry in this part of the Shattered Lens was Olive Oyl. On seeing John Carter this past Friday, though, I couldn’t take my eyes off of Lynn Collins on the scenes she was in. Playing a princess with a warriors spirit (and an awesome tan), Collins quit smoking and went through a bit of training for the fight sequences. For this, and a number of other example, she becomes the Shattered Lens’ Hottie of the Day for March 11, 2012.

If she looks at all familiar, it’s probably because she’s had a number of films under her belt. Although she had a small part in Joel Schumacher’s “The Number 23″ some years ago, Collins may be remembered best as Wolverine’s former love in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In that film, she played Kayla Silverfox, a mutant with the ability to sway people’s minds via touch. She was later featured in Alan Ball’s Towelhead, as the girlfriend of the protagonist’s father. Ball would later go on to feature Collins in the first few episodes of HBO’s True Blood as Dawn, one of the barmaids at Merlotte’s who had a tryst with Jason Stackhouse. Though her character didn’t last through too many episodes, she made her short stay a memorable one.

Lynn has been in a number of independent films, such as Numb with Matthew Perry, where she had to deal with Perry’s penchant for Kleptomania. She also starred in Uncertainty with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Collins, a mix of Irish and Native American backgrounds, is married to fellow actor Steven Strait, who was in The Covenant (also with John Carter’s Taylor Kitsch) and Roland Emmerich’s 10,000 B.C.

Here’s hoping that we see a lot more of Collins in the years to come.

On a side note, I wouldn’t mind if it’s her face behind Tali’Zorah’s Quarian mask in Mass Effect 3. That’s just me. :)

Wolverine & The X-Men: Aaron’s run is like putting all the quirky ideas & characters from X-History through a blender and bombarding the result with cosmic rays & gamma radiation. It’s the most entertaining X-Book out right now IMO (I dig X-Force but this book has an Allred purity to it.


Cassandra Sanchez:  Not sure how I ended up following this lovely young lady on twitter but she definitely caught my eye. You can get more of her on twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/CassiieMeLinda) or at her official site (http://www.cassiiem.com/index.php).


Redline: It’s a very fun & kinetic anime film. It’s like Furi Kuri had a baby with Hanna-Barbera’s Wacky Races.

Hottie of the Day: Olive Oyl

There’s a commercial out for Summer’s Eve that I’ve seen in the theatre. In it, it shows various battles while in the background, there’s a voice over explaining that “Men have fought for it, killed and died for it.” While that ends up being a little humorous at the end, it does point out something. Guys will often do anything for love (or is it lust)?

Take Olive Oyl as a case in point. I know, it’s off the wall and weird with all of the Hotties that have graced the Shattered Lens (and I could get myself kicked for all this), but hear me out. I made something of a fun dare with Arleigh that I could write this – despite the shame that may come from it – and am getting it out there.

That red shirt.

Her Leia-like hairdo, complete with the ponytail.

And those sexy boots.

It’s Olive’s apparent flaws that make her beautiful, at least to two men.

Ms. Oyl, the love of Popeye the Sailor, manages throughout to always attract the attention of both Popeye and his rival, Bluto (or Brutus, in some stories). Like the characters in Twilight, the two men are always at each other to defend her honor over the years in Max Fleischer’s serials. While she may be petite by today’s standards, Olive brings a sense of vitality and clumsiness that adds to her allure, not to mention her bright smile. She’s all woman.

Olive Oyl is also a resourceful girl, whether it’s by helping her man sneak into a Rodeo or even putting up a fight for him (she once at the spinach and beat up a girl), she shows she’s not one to always wait to be saved (note that I say always – she does have her times where she needs help). Imagine how she’d be if she were written differently, with a darker tone. Perhaps she’d be like Catherine Trammell, Sharon Stone’s character in Basic Instinct, dancing between but never being “owned” by either suitor. As long as Bluto has an interest in her, Popeye will run to her defense. Thus, she owns all the cards. A wise one, that cutie.

Hottie of the Day: Kumada Yoko

The next hottie of the day comes from the Land of the Rising Sun. Like most hotties chosen from this region this one also happens to be one from the gravure model and idol scene. Kumada Yoko is our latest “Hottie of the Day”.

Ms. Kumada was born in Gifu City, Japan in 1982 which would make her, like fellow gravure model Hoshino Aki, a rarity in that she remains in the J-Idol world despite being much older than the usual models. This speaks to her longevity in the business which usually prefers that the models it hire for Idol projects and gravure photoshoots be between 17-23 years of age.

Yoko did start out much older than most of her peers as she studied to become a nurse once she was out of high school. She did try taio go into the entertainment business much earlier but was forbidden by her parents who disapproved of the profession. But while studying to be a nurse the urge to enter the business was still strong in Yoko and she finally followed her dream and hasn’t looked back.

While her early career was mostly gravure photoshoots and the Idol videos here and there, in time work came to her and she began to branch out to appearing on several TV shows and her share of live-action dramas. In the end, her love remains as a model and she continues to this day to pump out new photoshoot book collections and J-Idol videos.

Hottie of the Day: Jessica Canizales

It is Super Bowl Sunday and while most of the nation and also others around the world will be watching this event as if their life depended on it for some it’s just another Sunday. These people, some of them at least would rather be watching the Lingerie Bowl. In honor of the latest Lingerie Bowl we have a new “hottie of the day”. The hottie chosen is the lovely model and Playboy Playmate Jessica Canizales.

Ms. Canizales was born in Brazil, but spent most of her childhood growing up in Panama and Idaho as her family moved several times. Once she was 18 she moved to Miami where she began to go to school to become an interior designer. While going to school she worked part-time at the local Hooters. It would be while she was employed at Hooters that she began modeling for the Hooters calendar.

It sounds cliche but she was discovered by a Playboy scout while walking down South Beach and asked her if she was interested in posing for the magazine. Her decision to take the offer would payoff for Jessica as she became a Playmate for the Spanish version of Playboy. She has since appeared many times on special editions of the magazine and has begun working for Playboy TV.

Jessica has now begun to branch out and started her own official website where she interacts with her fans.

Hottie of the Day: Melissa Giraldo

The newest hottie of the day share similarities with four previous hotties. This latest choice for our hottie feature is the lovely Melissa Giraldo.

Ms. Melissa Giraldo come straight from Medellin, Colombia. Like her lovely sisters the Davalos Twins, Daniela Tamayo and Sandra Valencia she is also one of the more popular models in South America as her work in the swimwear and lingerie industry has made her quite sought after to model companies’ products. Melissa has become one of the exclusive models for PHAX swimwear and also Besame Lingerie. She has also appeared many times in magazines as the featured pin-up and continues to expand to new fields in modeling such as runway shows both in her local Colombia and throughout South America.

Like the other South American models featured in this site’s “hottie of the day” she has gained quite a loyal following outside of Colombia and South America due to the spread of her pictorials over the internet. Only time will tell when she will finally explode in popularity here in the US. I wouldn’t be surprised if she becomes one of the new Victoria’s Secret Angels in a year or two.

Hottie of the Day: Misa Campo

For our latest “Hottie of the Day” we leave merry ol’ England and return back to U.S. shores. My latest pick is the very cute and lovely Misa Campo.

The one and only Misa Campo was born in Canada from a Filipino father and a Dutch mother. A combination of genes when combined turned out a lovely daughter who has been one of the most popular import car models for the past several years. A career which only happened after her boss at the place she bartended at recommended that she try modeling for the import car tuner shows which are popular in the West Coast.

She has been one of the major faces in the import car tuner model scene and a mainstay in the trade publications which promote the industry. Misa has also appeared on men’s magazines such as Maxim, AskMen, DragSport and others. She also does go-go dancing at hip-hop events which also tends to find itself paired with import tuner shows. Ms. Campo has also branched out her usual show modelling gigs by becoming the face of RocaWear Canada.

While she does yearn to settle down and raise her own family she has set that aside for the moment to focus on her modeling career. Maybe she’ll branch out to other forms of entertainment. One thing for sure that wherever she goes and whatever she decides to do Misa will have legion of fans always on the look out for more work from her.

Hottie of the Day: Alice Goodwin

What better way to usher in Christmas Eve 2010 than by introducing the newest selection for “Hottie of the Day”. Our latest hottie is none other than UK glamour model Alice Goodwin.

Ms. Goodwin, like most glamour models in the UK, was discovered by talent scouts for one of Great Britain’s many tabloid newpapers. This time around it was a scout from the Daily Star who discovered Alice as she sunbathed on a beach in Bournemouth (coincidentally this was the very same beach where Daily Star model Lucy Pinder was discovered a few years earlier). She quickly made the Daily Star‘s roster of topless models and became a favorite of the paper’s readership. She has since expanded her modeling career by posing for other UK lad magazines such as Nuts, Zoo Weekly and Maxim. Alice has also released her very own pin-up calender her first two years as a model.

Alice Goodwin has become such a favorite with fans in Great Britain that she was voted hottest babe of 2009 in the UK edition of Maxim. With her career just starting to take off it shouldn’t be long before she joins past UK glamour models such as Lucy Pinder, Keeley Hazell and Rosie Jones in moving into videos and other branches of the entertainment media.

Hottie of the Day: Sandra Valencia

It must be that time of year because the presents just keep on coming.

Just a few days ago we saw the return of the “Hottie of the Day” feature with Colombian model and entrepreneur Daniela Tamayo kicking it all off once again. This time around we follow-up one Ms. Tamayo with another hottie from her neighborhood. I speak of the lovely Sandra Valencia.

Ms. Valencia is another Colombia beauty who hails from Medellin, Colombia (I really must visit this place now). She has become one of the more popular and hottest models from this South American country and that’s saying a lot considering that previous hotties like Daniela Tamayo and the Davalos Twins also come from the same country. Sandra has turned the eyes of many people with her work for renowned lingerie company Besame Lingerie. She also has showcased her talents for other top brands like Diesel, Leonisa and Chevignon.

It her passion for modeling which has spurred Ms. Valencia to return to school to learn about fashion design which she hopes will help her launch her own lingerie line of products. Just like one of the writers for the site she also loves lingerie and sees it as a woman’s unspoken poetry. Maybe the two can share tips on what would look best on any given night.

Hottie of the Day: Daniela Tamayo

Speaking of golden globes…

I thought it was right about time to bring back an oldie, but goodie feature for the site which has languished in hiatus for the past couple months. The latest “Hottie of the Day” is one Daniela Tamayo.

Ms. Tamayo was born in New York City, but at the age of 5 moved to Medellin, Colombia and has lived there since. This doesn’t stop her from being fluent in English. Though Spanish or English it doesn’t matter since her very presence will cause men (and probably some women as well) to be dumbstruck. Like her fellow American-expatriates and Colombian models the Davalos twins, Daniela has taken to modeling quite well with her work as one Besame Lingerie’s feature models making Ms. Tamayo the talk of South America.

Some would think she would rest on her looks alone, but Daniela also has quite the entrepreneurial streak in her. She has started her own restaurant in her hometown of Medellin. Now, I have a reason to actually visit Medellin, Colombia that doesn’t involve visiting the resting place of the one they call Pablo.

Whether modeling or running a business, Ms. Daniela Tamayo is a perfect candidate for our latest Hottie of the Day.
