“Design is thinking made visual.” — Bill Gold
Bill Gold has been designing film posters for over 70 years and, together, his work includes the promotional campaigns for some of the most important American films since the 1940s. Gold’s posters are each designed to give their films a unique identity and, over the span of his long career, Gold’s work has reflected a wide range of trends, tastes, and approaches. In 2011, Gold came out of retirement to design the poster for Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar.
Gold has designed hundreds of posters. Below is just a sampling of his prolific career.

I love this posters and even have smaller-sized prints of some that you posted up. Now I know who actually painted them.
It’s fascinating to learn that these posters were designed by the same person. “A Clockwork Orange” is easily one of the greatest film posters that I’ve laid eyes on. Also, it seems as if Bill Gold is the go-to person for Clint Eastwood films. The “J.Edgar” poster looks very old school; the particular version shown above is dfferent from the poster that I have seen in Australia. One of my biggest gripes related to cinema these days is that poster art is lost in the 21st century. We need more posters artists who know how to design posters in the old school style.
